BUCO Salesman Powers to 50 Years!
Long serving, 72-year-old Salesman and power tool expert Roy de Morney has been in the industry for 54 years!
Over the years, Roy has seen it all from relocations, to name, management and staff changes. Roy started his career in 1964 at the then W.Miller Hardware store as an Office Clerk when he was just 17 years old. Roy was forced to leave school and start working to support his family after the sudden death of his father. He then joined the paint section and shortly after that took a salesman position in the power tool department in 1975. In 1980 the store relocated to its current position in Victoria street, Somerset West and officially started trading as BUCO five years ago.
Roy has achieved many awards from various power tool brands in the province as well as several internal awards. He achieved best tool salesman for Western Cape in 1980 and regularly won best salesman in Somerset West thereafter. Roy received many trophies in 2007 and 2008 but his greatest highlight is the relationships he has built over the years with his loyal customers and colleagues, which have become a second family to him.
Reaching the lawful age of retirement, Roy; father of three and grandfather to four is now appointed on a contractual basis by manager Bertus Malan; he has no plans to step down anytime soon. Roy is as fit as a fiddle and enjoys gardening and watching rugby and cricket in his spare time. Bertus describes Roy as “an asset to the business and an absolute expert on power and hand tools, each year we hope he agrees to stay on another year!” Thank you Roy, for your loyalty and dedication to the industry over the years, we salute you!
